Nowruz Spring Shisha Portal Altar 2019

Shisha rangoli formations are visual harmony centers that reflect intuitive sacred geometries and expressions of wonder. They tap into visual rhythms that activate and saturate the senses and spirit through what ignites wonder within myself. These energy pools are an affirmation and celebration of life, nature, cycles, and self-surrender. In its creation, this ancestral ritual and language of decoration is very meditative, asking one to release and be fully present. My shisha rangolis are a dance with light, darkness, color, and flow to invoke healing and the possibilities of feeling time and space in different ways. Each angle invites a different experience and the closer you look, more is revealed. Their generally ephemeral nature teaches detachment, trust and beauty in the process. The use of mirrors draws from my personal journey with transforming pain and reclaiming my inner power. …Follow your eyes and body to taste the light and divinity.

This piece was entirely intuitively created in 5 hours @ Civic Center Studios for Discostan celebrating Nowruz~ I channeled spring energies of regeneration, beauty, rebirth, and transformation for this piece using cloth rose petals, mirrors, textiles, flower garlands, fresh roses, ! Beautiful SWANA tunes played in the background while creating this piece and in its completion for those to witness simultaneous sensorial beauty~ Thank you to Arshia Fatima Haq for the invitation to share this work at Discostan and suggestion to use a translucent cloth to capture the light reflection projections.
